13 Years of Honest Business. Every Car. Every Customer.

Fort Lauderdale Auto Sales isn't a franchise and it isn't a flip lot. It's a family business built on one principle: treat people the way you'd want to be treated when buying a car.

Every guide on this site comes from hands-on experience. When we say a Honda Civic runs 200,000 miles, it's because Omari's serviced them at that mileage. When we explain BHPH financing, it's because he built the process.

How FLAS Handles a Missed Payment

At Fort Lauderdale Auto Sales, repossession is not the first response to a missed payment. Omari built this dealership around relationships — and that means working through problems together.

“Stuff happens. Give me a call. We're here for you.” — Omari Grant, Owner & ASE-Certified Mechanic

The single most important thing you can do: call before your payment is due, not after you've already missed it. That one action changes everything about how the situation gets resolved.

We accept partial payments. We work around payday schedules. We don't want your car back — we want you to keep driving it.

General BHPH Info

What Typically Happens at BHPH Dealers

BHPH financing is held in-house by the dealer — there is no bank or third-party lender. That structure gives dealers more flexibility than traditional lenders, but also means the response to a missed payment is entirely up to that dealer's policies.

Here is what typically happens across the BHPH industry:

  • Grace period: Most contracts include a 5–10 day grace period. After that, late fees apply. Check your contract for the exact terms.
  • Late fees: Commonly $25–$50 depending on the dealer and state law. Florida does not cap late fees on private auto loans, so they are set by contract.
  • Communication: Dealers will call or text. Responding and explaining your situation is always better than going silent.
  • Repossession: In Florida, a lender can repossess a vehicle without prior notice once a loan is in default. However, most dealers — including FLAS — use repossession only as a last resort after communication has broken down. See the CFPB guide on repossession rights to understand your consumer protections.
  • GPS starters: Some BHPH dealers use remote-disable devices. FLAS does not use payment interrupters as a first response to a missed payment.

Tips to Avoid Missing a Payment

Match Payments to Paydays
When possible, structure your payment due date around when you get paid. Ask at signing if bi-weekly payments are available to match a weekly paycheck.
Set Calendar Reminders
Set a reminder 3 days before your due date — not on the due date. That gives you time to arrange funds or call us if there is a problem.
Build a Small Buffer
Even $50–$100 set aside in a separate savings account as a payment buffer can prevent a missed payment during a slow week.
Communicate Early
If you know a payment will be tight, call (954) 793-1761 before the due date. Options exist when you communicate early — fewer options exist after you have already missed.
